The Los Angeles Lakers could potentially get Kobe Bryant back Friday against the Sacramento Kings. Unfortunately, they could be without big man Pau Gasol who is dealing with a very sore ankle.

Gasol, who did play in Sunday’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers looked extremely hobbled in the contest and suffered one of his worst games of the season.

It was clear the veteran wasn’t playing up to his normal standards due to his injury and fearing something else could be causing the sore ankle, the team and Gasol agreed he’d undergo an MRI Monday afternoon to get a better idea of what’s going on.

Lakers center Pau Gasol plans to undergo an MRI on his sprained right ankle, the big man said after the Lakers’ 114-108 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.

The Lakers have a scheduled off day Monday with their next game not coming until Friday in Sacramento but Gasol said he will use the free day to have his ankle examined.

It’s likely just a preventive measure and both Gasol and the Lakers are hopeful the five day rest will get Gasol back healthy.
