Vanderbilt vs. Texas, game preview

The Vanderbilt Commodores take on the Texas Longhorns in Austin, TX at 9 pm ET on ESPN 2.  Vandy is 4-2, and the Longhorns are 6-1.

The Longhorns are led by junior forward Jonathan Holmes who is averaging 13.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.  Holmes missed the last game due to a death in his family, and it is uncertain if he will return for tonight’s game.  Sophomore guard Demarcus Holland is Texas’ second leading scorer averaging 12.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.  Sophomore center Cameron Ridley is an inside presence at 6′ 9″ 285 lbs.  Ridley is averaging 9.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks per game.  Texas does not have a lot of firepower, but if the team rebounds and plays defense, then the Longhorns should come away with the victory.

Vanderbilt is led by sophomore guard Eric McClellan and senior forward Rod Odom.  McClellan is averaging 16.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.  Odom is averaging 13.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game along with shooting 51.4% from three point range.  Senior point guard Kyle Fuller is averaging 11.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.  Vanderbilt is shooting 49.1% from the field, and needs to shoot well as a team to have a chance against the Longhorns.

Expect a hard fought game in Texas.  Both teams are looking for a statement win to help jumpstart their respective seasons.
