1. Houston Texans
Selection: Jadeveon Clowney, defensive end, South Carolina
The Houston Texans are in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Houston has had a difficult season after they entered the season as a top contender in the AFC, but they have struggled greatly on both sides of the ball.
From horrendous play on the defensive side of the ball and inconsistent play at quarterback, however, one of those things has changed over the past few weeks.
While Case Keenum isn’t looking like a world beater, he is looking like a quarterback that is capable of keeping the team afloat and having them contend. It may be hard for the team to pass on one of the top signal-callers in the 2014 draft class, but they have shown before that the team is not afraid to buck the trend.
Instead of going for a quarterback, the Texans can immediately improve their defense by bringing South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who is the most impressive defensive end star in recent memory, to town.
Clowney would be able to team up with former NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt to form the top defensive end duo in the NFL.
