This is a tough time for the NBA.
Just days after Anthony Davis broke his hand, his former Kentucky teammate has suffered the same fate:
First Anthony Davis, now Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Left hand for MKG tonight in Dallas. Depressing 72 hours for the Class of 2012

This is a big blow to the Bobcats, who are hovering around .500 this season, and that might just be good enough to get them into the playoffs in a terrible Eastern Conference. Kidd-Gilchrist is averaging 9 points and 5 rebounds so far, but it’s his hustle and defense that is valuable to Charlotte. This is a team who has a slim margin for error, and this could end up hurting them more than many think.
If you’re keeping track, Paul Pierce, Anthony Davis, and now Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are now out with broken hands. Pierce is out for 2-4 weeks, and Davis is out for a minimum of 4 weeks. MKG’s status is unknown, but expect some details to be released tomorrow. Hopefully this isn’t a trend, as injuries aren’t good for the NBA. Here’s hoping Kidd-Gilchrist can get back soon.
