MLB rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers near deal to re-sign Brian Wilson

Love him or hate him, reliever Brian Wilson is an enigma – an enigma who apparently will be returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers, this according to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports:

Dodgers and Brian Wilson appear to be getting close on a contract agreement.

The Bearded One had hoped to find a team where he could close this offseason but apparently doesn’t seem to mind backing up Kenley Jansen in a setup role.

Multiple teams with a closing opportunity available contacted Wilson and some, like the Detroit Tigers, reportedly pressed hard for his services but Wilson, the strange character that he is, seemingly only had a few destinations in mind where he’d be comfortable pitching. Other spots, like the New York Yankees (who showed interested in Wilson) were passed up due to Wilson refusing to shave his famed beard.

Regardless, barring an oddity or a contract snag, it looks as if the eccentric former closer will remain with the Dodgers.
