Jon Leuer, who is trying to help the Memphis Grizzlies make up for the loss of last year’s Defensive Player of the Year, Marc Gasol and Zach Randolp, led the the Grizzlies with a career-high 23 points and seven rebounds. Ed Davis dropped in 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Mike Conley scored 18 points and dished out 14 assists to lead the Grizzlies to a 110-91 victory over the Phoenix Suns.
Marcus Morris scored 18 points and Goran Dragic poured in 16 for the Suns.
The Suns built a 10-point second quarter lead and took a 54-46 advantage into the break, but the Grizzlies absolutely dominated the second half. They outscored the Suns by 16 in the third quarter (36-20) and cruised from there, putting up 28 fourth quarter points to the Suns’ 17.
Despite the absence of Gasol and Randolph, the Grizzlies had 56 points in the paint and held the Suns to just 36. They also outrebounded the Suns by two and blocks swatted seven shots.
The Grizzlies, who are simply trying to weather the storm without their big men, are now 9-8 while the surprising Suns fall back to .500 at 9-9.
