There were rumors that Barcelona was going to pursue superstar Lionel Messi’s friend Sergio Aguero, who currently plays for Manchester City. Barcelona are denying those reports.
“No, we have had no contact with him,” club vice-president Josep Bartmoeu told Mundo Deportivo. “I can say that the story is not true.”
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said he hadn’t heard of any contact between the two either.
“I don’t know anything about that. I don’t think Sergio wants to leave. That is not a problem for us. I don’t believe in that.”
He did say that Aguero was aspiring to play to Messi’s level though.
“That is what we are working on every day and what he wants. The ambitions of Sergio will be very important if he can arrive at that level,” Pellegrini said, via ESPN FC. “I said last week after Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo he is the best. Both are not playing in the Premier League so he is.”
“He is a better player because he is older. He arrived in Spain when he was 18 or 19 years old. He was always a very important player, a top player, but this year he is trying to work a little bit more without the ball. Three or four goals of the last goals we scored are because he is doing a good job pressing their defenders. I think he is more complete.”
