Colorado quarterback Stevie Joe Dorman to transfer

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Mike MacIntryre announced on Tuesday that backup quarterback Stevie Joe Dorman will be transferring to West Texas A&M.

Dorman spoke about his decision via a statement released by the school, thanking his Colorado coaches for the support:

I’m leaving because I would really like to play my final two years of eligibility, it’s as simple as that. Sefo (Liufau) is doing a great job here, and I honestly don’t think I could take his spot. But I really enjoyed my three years here at CU, I liked my coaches, and appreciated what everyone did for me, especially the academic support you receive here.

But I want to go and do my thing, and there’s a spot for me on the West Texas A&M team, and I plan on competing for the starting job there. It’s also closer to home, about halfway between here and there, but more importantly, I’ll be eligible to compete right away and if I transfer now, I’ll be able to compete in spring practices (Buff Zone).

Dorman redshirted in 2011 and then missed most of 2012 due to an abdominal strain. He was behind Sefo Liufau and Connor Wood on Colorado’s depth chart this past season.
