Eric Brewer 'tweaks' something, doesn't play for Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning are already dealing with a lengthy list of players on the IR, and Eric Brewer could be joining them soon. After taking the morning skate prior to Tampa’s contest with the Columbus Blue Jackets last night, the veteran defenseman wasn’t out on the ice for pregame warm-ups and didn’t take part in the game.

Head coach Jon Cooper spoke to Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Bay Tribune about Brewer’s inability to play against the Jackets: “He tweaked something, so we’ll see.” According to Erlendsson, when Cooper was asked if there were any concerns about Brewer missing more than one game, the coach responded by saying “yes, there’s lots of concern.’’

Keith Aulie was inserted into the lineup in Brewer’s place.

The defenseman joins Radko Gudas on the sidelines, which takes a big chunk of minutes away from the Lightning’s blue line on a nightly basis. Tampa hopes to have Gudas back by this weekend, but there’s no timetable for Brewer’s injury.

Tampa doesn’t play again this evening, but is right back in the saddle tomorrow to take on the Philadelphia Flyers.
