Florida Panthers ratcheting up attempt to trade Dmitry Kulikov

Dmitry Kulikov was a healthy scratch last night when the Florida Panthers took on the Ottawa Senators in a game that no one watched, and it is being reported that this is an indication of the team’s desire to move the defenseman sooner rather than later.

Dale Tallon is working the phone in an effort to move the struggling blueliner, but his status as an upcoming RFA is scaring some teams off. That isn’t preventing Florida’s general manager from trying to find a dance partner though.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have long been connected to the Russian defender, but they seem to be among the teams that are weary of the KHL threat and a looming contract negotiation.

Tallon hasn’t been gun-shy when it comes to pulling the trigger on deals lately. It’s speculation on our part here, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Panthers offer up a consolation draft pick if Kulikov bolts or accepts a “future considerations” type of addition to a trade package on the condition of him re-signing.
