Oregon State AD not confident Beavers will go to bowl game

Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis isn’t sure that the Beavers, who finished 6-6 this year, will be invited to a bowl game.

Carolis spoke about the situation to The Oregonian, acknowledging that it’s likely the Washington State Cougars, another Pac-12 team who went 6-6, would be invited to a bowl ahead of the Beavers:

The bowl situation is quite the mess. Obviously there are going to be two (Pac-12) teams on the outside looking in, and we’re probably one of them.

We don’t know this for sure, but I would guess Washington State would get a bid because they haven’t been in a bowl game since (2003), so there’s pent up emotion in their fan base. They finished pretty strong, and they’re going to buy tickets and go wherever.

OSU’s history of having their fanbase travel well to bowl games could help the Beavers, but the five-game losing streak the team ended the year on, including an embarrassing 69-27 loss in Reser Stadium to the Washington Huskies, doesn’t exactly bode well for OSU’s bowl chances.

Those looking to learn more about the state of the Beavers and their potential bowl opportunities (or lack thereof) should head over to SB Nation’s Building the Dam for a breakdown.
