In the first year of the Butch Jones era in Knoxville, the Tennessee Volunteers definitely took their bumps in the SEC. They had probably the hardest schedule of anyone in the conference, but it wasn’t easy by any means.
Still, through it all, Vols fans believe that Butch Jones will build this program back up to where they were under Phil Fulmer. Like re-building anything, it’s going to take some time, and that starts with getting the recruits to make that happen.
On Wednesday, Jones and Tennessee took a huge step in the right direction when they landed a verbal commitment from five-star wide receiver Josh Malone.
Malone made his commitment live on the NBC Sports Network, surrounded by his family and classmates. He’s the no. 2 player in the state of Tennessee, and the 20th overall at any position. The 6-3, 195-pound threat will be an early enrollee at Tennessee and will participate immediately in spring practice.
The receiver picked Tennessee over offers from Clemson, Georgia, Florida State and Ohio State.
