The Louisville Cardinals defeated the UMKC Kangaroos 90-62 at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The Cardinals improved to 7-1, and the Kangaroos fell to 1-6.
Sorry Kangaroos, this just wasn’t your night. Louisville opened a 43-27 lead at halftime and didn’t give UMKC (University of Missouri-Kansas City) a chance in the second.
Five players scored in double digits for the Cardinals. Leading the way was sophomore forward Montrezl Harrell with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Senior guard Russ Smith dished out 11 dimes, and scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds. Junior forward Chane Behanan grabbed 11 boards, and shot five of eight from the field to finish with 11 points. Also scoring in double digits were senior forward Luke Hancock (10 points) and junior guard Chris Jones (10 points).
The Kangaroos were led by two guards. Senior Nelson Kirksey and freshman Martez Harrison each scored 14 points. Both players combined for nine turnovers as well. Senior forward Trinity Hall scored eight points along with nine rebounds, and freshman guard Frank Williams Jr. tacked on eight points.
UMKC will look to take better care of the ball (20 turnovers), and emphasize rebounding (outrebounded by 19 boards) in their next contest against the Youngston State Penguins on December 7th.
The Louisville Cardinals would like to have a few more games like tonight before they take on No. 3 Kentucky on December 28th. The Cardinals’ next game is against the Louisiana-Lafayette Rajin’ Cajuns on December 7th.
