It was a scary scene at the Boston Bruins game against the Montreal Canadiens as defenseman Johnny Boychuk took a vicious hit from Max Pacioretty along the boards and had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher. From the replays, it looks like Boychuck slammed his head into the boards and almost appeared to lose consciousness after the hit sent him tumbling to the ice.
After many intense minutes of worry by those watching Boychuk lay motionless on the ice, receiving attention from team doctors, cheers could be heard when Boychuk was eventually taken off the ice on a stretcher. Even though the crowd was cheering him on, Boychuk very much seemed to be out of is and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Crowd gives a cheer of support, as Johnny Boychuk (conscious) is wheeled off the ice on a stretcher. Sending our best, JB ^CS

The NHL has worked hard to try and avoid injuries like this that occur along the boards but as we saw tonight, they will still happen and they’re still as devastating as ever. Boychuk obviously won’t be back tonight and it’s hard to imagine he’ll be rushing back after the severity of the hit he took. The Bruins should know later tonight the full extent of the injury and more will be known tomorrow as well.
