The Toronto Maple Leafs are banged up all over. Phil Kessel left practice early yesterday morning, as did Joffrey Lupul. Tyler Bozak is still on the shelf and Colton Orr is dealing with an injury as well. In light of all the missing bodies, the Leafs have recalled forward Jerry D’Amigo from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Sometimes when a young player is recalled, it’s unclear what he’ll bring to the table. D’Amigo has played the same game at every level though, so the Leafs know exactly what they’re getting with this recall.
D’Amigo is an absolute motor at both ends of the ice. He drips work ethic and does whatever is needed to win. While he’s not going to fill the stat sheets or score four hat tricks in a season, the intangibles are clear.
He hasn’t played in an NHL game yet and it’s unknown whether or not he’ll get into the lineup during this recall. Toronto’s injuries are mostly of the day-to-day kind, so this could be a precautionary measure after the team placed Jerred Smithson on waivers yesterday.
In 19 games with the Marlies this season, D’Amigo has five goals and three assists.
