Ex-USC Trojans assistant coach Kennedy Polamalu is set to join the UCLA Bruins coaching staff, according to reports. Polamalu was fired as the team’s offensive coordinator by former head coach Lane Kiffin, but now he is set to get back into the coaching game after sitting out the 2013 season.
Kennedy will be joining the Bruins as the team’s running backs coach and an official announcement could be coming today. He will be replacing Steve Broussard, who was fired earlier this week.
The USC and UCLA rivalry is a heated one, so it adds a new dynamic that one of the coaches has switched staffs. However, Polamalu does have a history with the Bruins. Polamalu served as a grad assistant in 1992 and 1993, which was the first coaching gig of his career.
For those wondering, yes, Polamalu is related to Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. The Steelers star is the nephew of the new UCLA running backs coach.
