MLB Free Agency: Miami Marlins and Garrett Jones closing in on a deal

After helping the Pittsburgh Pirates reach the playoffs for the first time in over 20 years, first baseman/right fielder Garrett Jones is on the move.

I posted an article earlier this morning that involved both the Miami Marlins and Garrett Jones having a serious talk about Jones becoming a Marlin.

Now according to Ken Rosenthal on Twitter, the Marlins and Jones are closing in on a contract.

Rosenthal says it could be a two year deal, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s bumped up to a three year contract. Jones could come in handy in the outfield if someone were to be seriously hurt, but I expect him to take over first base which would mean Logan Morrison would be gone.

Jones hit .233/.289/.419 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI’s in 403 plate appearances in his final year with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
