You’ll have to forgive the Minnesota Wild for being ecstatic about downing the Chicago Blackhawks last night. While the ‘Hawks probably haven’t thought about the Wild once since downing the team in the first round of the playoffs last year, Minnesota knows who they’ll have to beat to get to the Final. They know who they’ll have to beat to win the Central Division.
The two teams played an incredibly entertaining, back-and-forth contest to a 3-3 tie with less than two minutes remaining the third period. the game seemed fated for overtime and maybe even a shootout. Marco Scandella had other ideas.
Scandella’s goal gave the Wild a 4-3 lead and eventually a victory over their rivals. The tally was the first of the youngsters NHL career, and the timing couldn’t have been better. He spoke to the Associated Press about how it felt to score that goal after the contest and had this to say:
Against a team like Chicago, coming back, it feels good. It’s a great feeling in the room right now. We battled all game. We stuck with it, which is the important thing.
If the Wild didn’t have Chicago’s attention, they probably do now. Minnesota fought back from a 3-2 deficit in the third to eventually secure the win.
