‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ to Hit Theaters in 2016

We are still six months away from the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past. In fact, they only recently wrapped up filming and entered post-production on the film. However, that has never stopped director Bryan Singer from causing a stir. The director took to Twitter to announce the coming of the next installation in the X-Men franchise entitled X-Men: Apocalypse.

At this very early stage, there is not a lot known other than the title and release date, which is May 27, 2016 for the record.

However, one could be left to assume, and they could quite possibly be right, that the storyline is going to surround the original mutant, Apocalypse.

For those of you not so familiar with the X-Men backstory, Apocalypse is an ancient mutant who is one of the X-Men’s most complex villains. He has a bevy of powers that range from shape shifting, to telepathy, telekinesis, and even technopathy. Oh, and did I forget to mention that he doesn’t need to eat, drink, or anything of the sort, and he can regenerate from any fatal injury. In other words, he is pretty much invincible.

There is no word on whether or not this story is going to take place in the modern world to include our original X-Men like Storm and Wolverine, or if it will take place in the past with the younger versions of our mutant friends. Arguments can be made on both sides; on one side you have Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy. On the other you have Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, and Patrick Stewart. Each have their own special contributions to the franchise, and each viable to continue the story.

So now, here comes the part where we are all left to speculate the future. Do you think the franchise is moving forward with the ancient mutant Apocalypse, or was it just a clever name meant to draw us in? Which cast do you think they will move forward with, or will they find a way to do another crossover like Days of Future Past? Let us know what you think.

X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2016.
