No. 21 UMass stays undefeated after high scoring contest

The UMass Minutemen defeated the BYU Cougars 105-96 at MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA.  The Minutemen remain undefeated at 8-0, and the Cougars fell to 7-3.

UMass senior guard Chaz Williams continues to take his team to the next level. Williams scored 32 points and dropped 15 dimes with only a single turnover.  The senior guard from Brooklyn easily had one of the best performances of the year in college basketball.

UMass Senior forward Sampson Carter netted 20 points along with 4 turnovers, and senior forward Raphiael Putney scored 15 points.  Junior forward Maxie Esho has been a solid contributor for the Minutemen, and he came away with 12 points and 6 boards.  Sophomore guard Trey Davis helped facilitate the offense with six assists and eleven points.

The Cougars had a terrific scoring attack that fell short.  Junior guard Tyler Haws led the way for BYU with 25 points, and fellow junior guard Matt Carlino netted 23 points along with 6 assists.  Freshman forward Eric Mika scored 18 points and crashed the boards for 8 rebounds.  Guards Kyle Collinsworth and Frank Bartley IV each had 14 points, with Collinsworth adding 7 boards and 3 assists.

Next game: UMass will play Northern Illinois (3-4) at 3 pm ET on December 14th. The game will be broadcasted on the NBC Sports Network.  BYU will play Prairie View A&M (2-6) at 9 pm ET on December 11th.
