No. 8 Wisconsin uses charity stripe to beat Marquette

The Wisconsin Badgers defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles 70-64 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The Badgers remain undefeated at 10-0, and the Golden Eagles fell to 5-4.

After being down by as much as 11 points with less than six minutes to go, Marquette fought their way back into the game.  At 2:09, Marquette senior forward Jamil Wilson hit a three to get the Golden Eagles within three points of the Badgers.  Wisconsin junior forward Frank Kaminsky answered with a three to put the Badgers up 60-54 with 1:35 left.

With less than a minute to go, the Wisconsin Badgers were fouled six times. Marquette’s fouling strategy failed to work because the Badgers hit 10 of 11 free throws.  The Golden Eagles managed to score 10 points in the final minute, but their run fell short.

Wisconsin top performers: Sophomore forward Sam Dekker had 20 points and 10 boards.  Senior guard Ben Brust scored 13 points.  Junior guard Traevon Jackson netted 12 points with 7 dimes and 5 boards.  Frank Kaminsky scored 11 points, blocked 3 shots, and grabbed 4 rebounds.  Junior guard Josh Gasser had 10 points and 4 assists.

Marquette top performers: Jamil Wilson led all scorers with 22 points, and added 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Senior forward Davante Gardner scored 16 points, and senior center Chris Otule netted 11 points with 9 boards and 2 blocks.  Juan Anderson scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds before fouling out.
