No. 9 Oklahoma State sails past South Carolina

The Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks 79-52 at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  The Cowboys improved to 8-1, and the Gamecocks fell to 2-3.

Oklahoma State played excellent defense in the first half, and opened a 39-15 lead at halftime.  The Gamecocks played much better in the second half, but were unable to overcome the deep hole they dug to begin the game.  South Carolina will surely look to improve upon their 24 turnovers in their next contest.

The Cowboys produced a balanced scoring attack against the Gamecocks. Junior forward Le’Bryan Nash led all scorers with 16 points.  Player of the Year candidate Marcus Smart scored 13 points, grabbed 4 boards, and dropped 5 dimes.  Fairly standard night for the future first rounder.  Senior guard Markel Brown scored 11 points with 4 rebounds.  Forwards Michael Cobbins and Brian Williams each tacked on 10 points, with Cobbins grabbing 7 rebounds and Williams snatching 3 steals.

Freshman guard Jaylen Shaw led the way for South Carolina with 13 points and 3 assists.  Shaw hit three of four from downtown.  Freshman guard Tyrone Johnson scored 12 points with 3 boards and 3 dimes.  Sophomore forward Michael Carrera shot poorly from the field (0-4 FG), but had seven rebounds.

Next game:  Oklahoma State will play at Louisiana Tech (6-2) on December 14th at 2 pm ET.  South Carolina will play Manhattan (5-2) on December 17th at 7 pm ET.
