According to a report from the Palm Beach Post, Florida State University and head football coach Jimbo Fisher have agreed on a new deal that will put him within the top 10 highest paid coaches in the country.
Per the report, the new deal would pay the Seminoles’ head coach $4.1 million per year , significantly higher than Fisher’s $2.75 million that he’s due to make this season, which ranks 21st nationally.
With a win tonight over Duke in the ACC Championship Game, the ‘Noles will certainly be headed off to Pasadena to play for their first BCS National Championship since 1999, so many thought that a new deal for the coach would be coming soon.
Fisher had the tough task a few years ago of taking over this program from the legendary Bobby Bowden, right as it had begun to slip from its dominant ways.
Slowly but surely, though, Fisher has built the program back into a national force, as has been evidenced by the way they’ve torn through the competition this season, en route to a 12-0 regular season record.
