It looks like mixed martial arts fans are getting some bad news on Saturday morning. After rumors surfaced on Friday night that the scheduled main card welterweight scrap between Carlos Condit and Matt Brown at UFC on FOX 9 was in jeopardy due to an injury, reports on Saturday indicate that Brown has in fact decided to withdraw from the fight.
Sources close to the fight confirmed the news with Bleacher Report on Saturday morning. The possibility of Brown’s withdrawal was first reported by Twitter user Front Row Brian on Friday, but our sources told us that Brown’s decision to withdraw from the fight was not actually made until Saturday morning.
UFC on FOX 9 is set to take place next Saturday, so it will be difficult to find an opponent willing to step up on one week’s notice to take a bout against Condit, who is one of the best 170-pounders in the world.
There has been no official word from the UFC, so we will have to wait and see if they will find a replacement or reschedule the bout for a later date if the report proves to be true.
