Does anybody remember Wily Mo Pena? He hasn’t been in the league for awhile but he has been playing baseball in Japan.

The last time he was in the Major Leagues was with the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011. In his last season in the Major Leagues, he hit seven home runs and 15 RBI’s with a batting line of .204/.250/.416.

He elected to become a free agent after the season ended and then headed over to Japan after signing a two year contract with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. Pena displayed some power with the Hawks as he hit 21 home runs and 76 RBI’s in 130 games in 2012.

His season didn’t go as well in 2013 as he hit only one home run but drove in 16 RBI’s on a batting line of .233/.322/.307.

Despite his down hill performance, Pena was still able to draw some interest from another team in the league.

According to Ben Nicholson-Smith on Twitter, Pena is getting set to sign a one year contract witht he Orix Buffaloes.
