2013 BCS rankings projections: Auburn likely in title game after Ohio State loss

Saturday afternoon, the Auburn Tigers took care of the Missouri Tigers in the SEC Championship Game behind an impressive rushing performance, 59-42.

With the win, first-year head coach Gus Malzahn completed en epic turn around, taking this team that went 3-9 last year and winless in the Southeastern Conference, to 12-1 and SEC Champions.

After the win, they knew they were BCS bound, automatically qualifying as the conference champs. Still, though, they needed to pray that Michigan State upended Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday.

Well, those prayers were answered, as Michigan State has just completed their upset of the second-ranked Buckeyes, 34-24 in Indianapolis.

With that happening, the third-ranked Tigers should be a shoo-in to take over that second spot in the BCS standings when they’re released on Sunday, seeing as they’ve defeated the no. 1 and no. 5 ranked teams in back-to-back weeks. They defeated Alabama in that incredible Iron Bowl last Saturday, which gave them the SEC West Championship.

Auburn knew they hired the right guy in Malzahn, but I’m not sure anyone expected this.
