2014 Outback Bowl: LSU Tigers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

The BCS Bowl announcements are coming tonight and with it are the announcements of the other slew of bowl games that will be played over the holiday season. One of those bowl games is the Outback Bowl which this year will feature two very interesting teams meeting in an intriguing matchup.

Despite having rough years, two former conference powerhouse teams will be meeting in the Outback Bowl in a rematch of a classic game from not too long ago. The Iowa Hawkeyes and LSU Tigers will be meeting in a rematch of a great 2004 Capital One Bowl we saw back in 2004.

For the Tigers, the season was met with more disappointment than fans could have imagined. From sinking in the polls again outside of the BCS Bowls to losing their quarterback to an ACL injury late in the season, this is a year that LSU is going to leave very far behind them. However, winning the Outback Bowl will be a nice way to sort of rebound and make up for the pitfalls.

For the Hawkeyes, the Big 10 was never within their reach this season and they’re playing for pride at this point. Still, there are far worse bowls than the Outback Bowl to win and Iowa could use the boost after this season.

Think you missed Iowa’s season outlook by a lot. Coming off a 4-8 season last year going 8-4, and winning every rivalry trophy (though losing to Wisconsin) is a huge turn around, something folks in Iowa are very excited about.
