World Series of Fighting 7 GIF recap & results

Last night, World Series of Fighting was in Vancouver, Canada for their 7th show. Coming off the huge promotional news that they would be having two shows on NBC in 2014, WSOF had another strong showing.

The promotion’s first ever Featherweight champion, Georgi Karakhanyan, was crowned last night in an entertaining battle against Team Alpha Male product, Lance Palmer. In the co-main event of the evening, infamous TUF alum, Jesse Taylor fought Elvis Mutapcic for the right to fight for the promotion’s Middleweight title against David Branch. The one-handed fighting sensation, Nick Newell, also fought on the card as well.

Official Results:

Georgi Karakhanyan defeats Lance Palmer by submission (guillotine choke) Round 3 (4:40)

This was a fun fight fought at a frenetic pace. Georgi showed off a flashy kicking game, keeping Palmer at bay. Lance poked Georgi in the eye pretty bad, but the fight continued. The second round saw Palmer gaining the edge with takedowns, but could not really throw any effective strikes. Palmer was being put on the defensive by Georgi in every position. In the third round, Palmer started getting into a groove with his takedowns, but a mistake cost him the fight. Palmer left his head on the outside of Georgi’s body for too long, and Georgi sinked in the guillotine choke.

Jesse Taylor defeats Elvis Mutapcic by Unanimous Decision

This fight was not the greatest fight you will ever see, but Jesse Taylor got the job done. His wrestling dominance was on full display from the opening bell. Jesse was able to take down Elvis at will and raining down his ground and pound. In round 2, Jesse was fishing for submissions after busting Elvis’s face up. Elvis fought off all the attempts, but could never mount any offense of his own. By the third round it was all Jesse Taylor, but the action had slowed significantly. Taylor was up on the scorecards, and rode out the round to the decision.

Nick Newell defeats Sabah Fadai by submission (standing guillotine) Round 1 (1:21)

Nick Newell is becoming a bonafide star in MMA today. The one-armed fighter has definitely earned the right to shed all of the ‘one-arm’ talk in favor of how great of a fighter he truly is. This fight was lightning fast and Nick Newell started hot. After a short exchange on the feet, Newell shot in for the takedown against the fence, got his patented guillotine locked up, and tapped Fadai quickly.

Kalib Starnes defeats Dwayne Lewis by KO Round 2 (1:02)

These men came to fight and came to brawl. In an exciting affair, that was almost all stand-up, the two men traded punches, taunts, and kicks. When Starnes was attacking, he was winning the fight. Lewis, however, was pressuring him early in round 2, and Starnes looked to capitalize of his opponent’s aggression. Starnes pushed Lewis up to the fence, and landed a hellacious standing elbow to the face of Lewis, knocking him out cold. It was a great performance and KO from Starnes.
