It wasn’t that long ago that Kevin Youkilis was among the elite third baseman in Major League Baseball. But back injuries quickly devalued Youkilis’ game which saw him traded to the Chicago White Sox before eventually making his way to the New York Yankees, where his injury woes worsened.
Now after missing large portions of both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Youkilis says he’s feeling healthy and he wants to continue his MLB career:
Kevin Youkilis missed a lot of 2013, but he intends to play in 2014 and there should be some clarity on future team in next couple of days.
The Yankees, Youkilis’ most recent team probably wouldn’t mind having him return assuming he is healthy, but that’s quite the assumption to make considering the history of the past few seasons.
Youk is still just 35 (not exactly a Spring chicken, but still young enough to put up numbers if healthy) so teams will certainly have interest, though it’s likely he’ll need to take an incentive laden deal if he wants anything guaranteed.
Otherwise, it’s doubtful any teams would give him anything more than a Spring Training invite.
