On Sunday evening, Arizona Cardinals rookie defensive back Tyrann Mathieu attempted to jog off of the field after having his knee awkwardly rolled up on during a tackle, but he collapsed to the ground after his knee buckled and needed to be carted off of the field.

The injury was initially feared to be a torn ACL for Mathieu, but it is unfortunately even worse.

From Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network:

Mathieu was having a successful rookie campaign and reminding us why we all loved the “Honey Badger” when he was at LSU, so hopefully he will be able to make a full and speedy recovery.

With his awareness and natural talent, Mathieu could develop into one of the best young safeties in the league. Let’s just hope that the knee injury doesn’t provide too big of a setback that knocks him off course.
