American skier Lindsey Vonn is continuing to recover from serious knee injuries as she competes in an attempt to prepare for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia and she was able to continue improving her times since returning to the slopes.
Vonn finished fifth in a World Cup super-G in Lake Louise, Alberta and the result left her feeling like she is ready for Sochi.
“Huge step in the right direction,” Vonn said, according to USA Today. “A perfect way to end the weekend. I have a lot of self confidence now. Every day I got more and more aggressive, more confident and I feel great.”
Vonn plans to continue racing and improving on her times during the preparation, which she hopes will lead her to an eventual trip to the podium with a pre-Olympic win.
“I do need a couple more stops,” Vonn said. “I want to make sure I at least get on the podium once, if not win before going into Sochi. For me mentally I really want to have that in my back pocket.”
Vonn needs to avoid another injury and suffering another setback, but she is heading in the right direction and that is a positive sign for her comeback and hopes of winning a medal in the Winter Olympics.
