When D.J. Augustin signed with the Toronto Raptors this past offseason, he was hoping he’d get a chance to play for a starting role.
What he didn’t expect was to be void of a team before Christmas, but that’s the case for the former Texas Longhorn who was released by the Toronto Raptors on Monday afternoon.
That has left Augustin on waivers, though, it’s not expected any team will claim the point guard. Assuming that to be the case, Augustin will become a free agent and according to Yahoo Sports, will likely sign with the Chicago Bulls who have become the ‘frontrunner’ to sign the former 8th overall pick:
The Chicago Bulls are strong frontrunners to sign point guard D.J. Augustin, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
With Derrick Rose out for the regular season, there won’t be a better opportunity for Augustin around the league nor will the Bulls land a better player out of ‘free agency’, despite his extremely ineffective shooting.
Augustin was averaging 2.1 points and one assist per game for the Raptors in just over eight minutes per game.
