Filming has already begun on the film adaptation of author E.L. James’ bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey; however, this does not stop casting news from continuing to pour in. It would seem that Universal Pictures has filled another role in the cast. Battlestar Galactica’s Callum Keith Rennie has been cast as Anastasia’s stepfather Ray Steele.
Now, you may say…stepfather? They already cast Anastasia’s stepfather. Well, you would be right; except for the fact that she has two stepfathers. As we previously reported, Dylan Neal, who plays Dr. Anthony Ivo on the hit CW seriesArrow has been cast as Bob Adams, Anastasia’s stepfather. This is who Anastasia’s mother Carla is currently married to.
Ray, whose last name Anastasia bears, is Carla’s ex-husband and the man whom Anastasia actually considers to be her father.
Ray will come into play a little more once Anastasia graduates college, and he meets Christian Grey at her graduation.
Rennie is joining an ever growing cast of characters being led by Once Upon A Time’s Jamie Dornan and Ben & Kate’s Dakota Johnson who play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
The film also stars The River’s Eloise Mumford as Anastasia’s BFF Kate Kavanagh, Pacific Rim’s Max Martini as Jason Taylor, True Blood’s Luke Grimes as Christian’s brother Elliot Grey, Zero Dark Thirty’s Jennifer Ehle as Anastasia’s mother Carla, Godzilla’s Victor Rasuk as Anastasia photographer friend Jose, and British pop sensation Rita Ora as Christian’s little sister Mia Grey.
The film is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled to be released on February 13, 2015.
