It’s been a struggle to keep players on the court for the 19th-ranked Florida Gators this season. Billy Donovan’s squads have fought through suspensions and injuries to a 6-2 record, which includes a one-point victory over the rival Florida State Seminoles and close losses to the Wisconsin Badgers and Connecticut Huskies, two teams currently ranked in the top 10.
Veteran guard Scottie Wilbekin has played in just three games. He was initially suspended before returning against Jacksonville on November 25. He suffered a high ankle sprain in the Gators’65-64 loss to the Huskies last Monday. The senior out of Gainesville, Florida is averaging 11.3 points, 5.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.
The Gators have also been without highly touted freshman guard Kasey Hill. Hill, like Wilbekin, had problems with a high ankle sprain. He suffered the injury in a 67-53 victory over Southern on November 18 and hasn’t played since. Hill was averaging 10.3 points and 4.3 assists per game.
The Gators will get both guards back Tuesday night and they will certainly need them. They’ll host the 13th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks at 7:00 pm EST in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge.
