MLB rumors: Orioles trying to ‘get deal done’ with Grant Balfour

The Baltimore Orioles are just one of many teams looking to fill a void at closer. Unlike those other teams though, they could be close to landing one of the top closers on the market as it’s being reported the O’s are in discussions with Grant Balfour and are trying to ‘get a deal done‘ with the fireman:

#Orioles definitely on Balfour, as @Jim_Duquette and others have said. Trying to get a deal done.

Balfour has spent the past few seasons with the Oakland Athletics, though his price was a bit too elevated for the small market A’s who let Balfour walk in free agency.

A bit eccentric at times, Balfour can certainly get under the skin of the opposition (as we saw in the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers and Victor Martinez this past postseason) but the numbers don’t lie.

In a bit of an ironic twist, the Orioles recently traded their former closer Jim Johnston to the Athletics to free up money, which could eventually help them land the former A’s closer.
