When free agency broke, shortstop Stephen Drew was hoping he’d be able to cash in on his productive 2013 postseason.
Many teams were in need of a middle infielder and Drew seemed to fit the bill, however, after being given a $14.1 million dollar qualifying offer by the Red Sox and having an iffy offensive history, teams were reluctant to pay Drew his asking price in addition to forfeiting a draft pick, thanks to the QO.
It was an understandable stance and now with the vast majority of those previously interested teams filling their shortstop hole, Drew’s options have become more limited by the day. Granted, there are still some teams displaying interest in Drew, but a return to the Red Sox seems like the most likely scenario as even a rival executive who was attempting to sign the shortstop believes Drew will return to Boston:
