Nick Saban, Alabama talking contract extension worth $7M per year

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has been unable to avoid rumors linking him to the Texas Longhorns and they are only getting louder with the news that Mack Brown is expected to step down in the coming weeks.

However, a recent report should comfort Alabama fans with the news that Saban is negotiating a contract that would pay the head coach an incredible amount of money per year to remain with the Crimson Tide.

From Gil Brandt of NFL.com:

One of the biggest selling points for Saban at Texas would be the money that he could earn, but that advantage becomes insignificant if Alabama is willing to ante up and throw down $7 million per year.

It was never believed that Saban would actually leave Alabama, but there was some speculation that could be put to rest if a contract is eventually put to rest.

If Saban gets $7 million per year out of Alabama, it looks like all of those Texas talks raised his talks and ended up being a good thing that he could cash in on.

Kirby is a great Defensive Coordinator, and has done well with the Tide Defense. I hope we can keep them both around for a looooong time! RTR!

Not on either side of this issue but 7 mil is just a drop in the bucket to what Texas could offer.
