And so it continues. It wasn’t long ago that we heard Nick Saban was discussing a contract extension with the Alabama Crimson Tide that would pay him $7 million per year, but the rumors linking Saban to Texas just won’t die.

A new report has surfaced saying that a source close to the Texas executive council of regents expects Saban to become the next head coach of the Texas Longhorns.

From Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

It is hard to keep up with all of the rumors that are circulating, but it is hard to ignore the growing reports of Saban to Texas. The rumors are gaining steam and with more reports the story has more validity.

It once seemed highly unlikely that Saban would leave Alabama, but now you have to begin to wonder.

Mack Brown is expected to step down at the end of this week which would open to door for Saban to join the Longhorns, so stay tuned to the story that will likely include many twists and turns over the days and weeks and weeks ahead.

    Bama please take muschamp

    • Nighthawk

lol yeah right…I don’t think Temple would want that clown.

  • Brooks Shows

So far the ONLY national reporting of this has come from Josh Sanchez and Fansided, and has consistently been based on rumors, hearsay and anonymous sources. Has the University of Texas FIRED Mac Brown? Because it seems to me, that has to happen first, before Texas can hire another coach. Saban is busy flying around the country landing 5-star recruits, and they are busy verbally committing to Alabama. This seems extremely odd if Saban is about to leave for Texas.

Since about mid-way through this season, the same reporter has submitted at least 4 different stories now on Saban’s departure to Texas, and he seems to be obsessed with continuing to throw it out there again on the basis of nothing more than a tweet from a Texas fan. Sports Illustrated, you are quickly losing your credibility with this clown and his clown-like antics.

    • David

OR…he just may know what he’s talking about. You’ve just always gotta wait and see.

TL;DR — chill the fuck out.

      • Brooks Shows

Or maybe he was totally FULL of it?

Question is, will Joshy be man enough to publically apologize for being completely WRONG about this? I doubt it!

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Josh isn’t reporting anything. He is passing along a report from someone else. Stevenson is reporting this and Josh is bringing you up to speed on what he is hearing. In short, don’t shoot the messenger. =)

      • Brooks Shows

Ah.. So Josh is spreading gossip? Glad you clarified.
SI = National Enquirer of Sports!

      • ThatElephantInTheRoom

Whatever gets those page visits. Last time I am visiting this site that has zero journalistic integrity.

  • Joseph Walsh

Would you stop with the half-cocked reporting already? There’s are exactly 0 credible sources reporting this, Mack Brown and Saban are both recruiting for their respective schools, Brown has denied he’s stepping down (or has been forced to step down), and Saban just signed a new contract with Bama.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Again, he’s not reporting anything. He is passing along a report from another media member.

      • Joseph Walsh

So “Someone claims Nick Saban will be Texas’ next head coach” is a more appropriate title. The amount of backlash your “pass along a report” website is receiving, you might want to add some grains of salt into your diet.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen
    • Dylan Cole

Saban hasn’t signed the contract yet, it’s been sitting on his desk since Friday. Making me nervous

      • Joseph Walsh

Do you know why it’s sitting on his desk, unsigned? Because it was placed there while he was out of Tuscaloosa recruiting. He’s still out of Tuscaloosa recruiting, ergo, it is still unsigned.

  • Ty Meeks

“I heard the locals at the coffee shop saying Saban is the next Texas coach.” -Josh Sanchez

    Great reporting SI. Real reliable.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

      1. We’re not SI, we’re FanSided.
      2. He isn’t reporting anything. He is passing along a report from another media member.

      • Ty Meeks

Well good. Don’t need to waste my time on here anymore. Might want to take the SI.com logo off the header. Some people might actually confuse your website with something legitimate.

        • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Sorry you feel that way, Ty. We’re part of the network but we don’t pretend to break news. We try to provide a place where fans can get sports news and rumors and we try to be pretty clear about what the information we are passing along, is. This, for instance, is a us telling you about a report from a newspaper guy. The burden of proof and credibility is on him, not us. His position as a media member gives credence to his report so we are letting you know that it is out there. It is up to you to make up your mind of wether or not you want to believe this report. We wouldn’t and don’g pass along reports from non-media members but since this guy is a member of the media, we are passing it along. Sorry if the information upset you.

        • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

And frankly, this story has merit, which is why we are passing along the information to you. And we aren’t the only ones: http://msn.foxsports.com/college-football/story/with-coach-brown-out-let-saban-to-texas-rumors-begin-121013

          • Ty Meeks

            #Fail

  • Mark Weems

Stop these rumors.Saban has never left a job anywhere. He has been at the same place his entire career.

    • dewey butterbean

Satan’s a winner. I mean saban, he’ll leave quicker than a jack rabbit on a blind date like Mich st and LSwho and Miami

    • Matthew Turnage

Apparently he was never at L.S.U….

    • John Eller

Mark, are you retarded? Saban left LSU (where he won a national championship) for the NFL to coach Miami. After 2 years of failure in the league, he left Miami and was picked up by Alabama.

  • Carey Kennedy

Next Head coach at Alabama Kirby Smart I hope.

    • Dustin Zick

NO! Sign Charlie Strong if Saban leaves. I’m telling you, that is a home run!

    • des111168

Alabama is going for an NFL guy if Saban leaves; it’ll make the biggest publicity splash, and will fit the talent already on hand. Failing that…. give a warm welcome to Dabo Swinney.

    • Dylan Cole

I feel like Bama would either go for an NFL coach or either decide on Charlie Strong or the Stanford head coach. That would be a grand slam!

  • Carol Watts Abbott

If I was in the market for a sports agent, I would definitely hire Jimmy Sexton. He even got his client Gus Malzahn’s name up in this non-story….

  • Rob Romero

If Nick Saban is in the middle of extension talks with Alabama and Mack Brown has yet to formally resign or be fired, can’t the University of Alabama go after the University of Texas for tampering?

    • Tommy Harris

No, they can’t. There are no tampering rules for in the NCAA like in the NFL. Schools can reach out to any coach they want, whenever they want.

  • Kenneth Davis

and lets dont forget that he is in a contract til 2018 now

    • des111168

His contract has a no-buyout clause, i.e. he can leave whenever he likes without penalty. It was a condition of coming to Tuscaloosa in the first place.

  • Krista Nichols

    disclose sources or shut up

    • Bevo Austin

If a reporter discloses sources then they become ineffective and lose credibility with other potential sources.

      • Danny Bowen

Yeah, and if they don’t they become ineffective and lose credibility with their VIEWERS.

  • des111168

When are people going to learn that at the major college level, every single coach is a lying mercenary, a hired gun?

  • Mark Weems

So bammer ya’ll get your three peat.Thrid time ( or is it 4th, 5th or 6th) saban has lied and said he isn’t going anywhere. That’s something else ya’ll can add to your already exaggerated list of claims.

    • David Puddy

Why in the world would little booger be post his garbage about this article? Can you say OBSESSION.

  • Randy Daniel

When did a Tweet with no back up become a report? Even he said he didn’t have time to follow it up or know if it’s true. Good grief, “reporting” sure has gone downhill the past few years.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Yeah these days a lot of big time reporters break their stuff on Twitter. Schefter and the like. In this day and age, they still want to be first and the fastest way to do that is to tweet it and write the story later.

  • Jefrey With One F

Bama fans are gonna run off a solid coach.

  • Danny Berry

The only thing I would be worried about if I was an Alabama fan is the fact that Saban was offered another extension last Friday and it is still sitting on his desk unsigned.

  • David Puddy

LOL…. this reports comes from a bozo who tweeted a rumor. HAHA the best part is check out his addy. @FollowTheFrogs !!!! I love it!
