According to Josh Kendall of The State, South Carolina Gamecocks’ cornerback Ahmad Christian has decided to leave the program.
Christian, a 5-10, 189-pound native of Jacksonville, Fla., did not return a voice mail message or text seeking comment on what a source described as a decision to leave to be closer to his ailing mother.
“Ppl dont know wat they be talkin bout … but God Bless (sic),” Christian tweeted Tuesday morning.
Later in the day, this was posted on his Twitter account: “hope yall kno i would be the startin corner next year by far (sic).”
The decision surprised many and could leave the Gamecocks in a tough position. They have an excellent pair of starting cornerbacks, but neither will be back next season. Jimmy Legree is a senior and Victor Hampton, a junior, has decided to enter the NFL draft.
Of course, the decision is understandable. Nobody can be upset about a player tending to his sick mother.
Christian played in all 12 games for the 10-2 Gamecocks this season.
