The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Utah Jazz 105-94 at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City. The Trail Blazers improved to 18-4, and the Jazz fell to 4-19.
Utah was losing 77-64 heading into the fourth quarter, and cut the deficit to seven points a few times, but the Jazz did not have the firepower to overcome the Trail Blazers.
It is not easy beating one of the best teams in the Western Conference, especially when LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard continue to play stellar basketball for the Blazers. Aldridge finished with 24 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Lillard netted 18 points with five rebounds and three assists. Center Robin Lopez contributed a double-double scoring 15 points and collecting 11 boards.
The Blazers shot an astounding 95% from the charity stripe, hitting 19 of 20 free throws. Portland needed a great night from the line because the Jazz hit a remarkable 21 of 23. That’s good fundamental basketball.
Top performers for the Jazz included Enes Kanter, who scored 19 points, grabbed five boards, and had two steals. Gordon Hayward had 17 points, five rebounds, and a smooth transition dunk. Rookie Trey Burke scored 15 points with six rebounds and 5 assists.
Next game: The Trail Blazers play Houston on Thursday at 10:30 pm ET on TNT. The Jazz play at Sacramento on Wednesday at 10 pm ET.
