Numerous reports are saying that the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have named Bowling Green head coach Dave Clawson to fill the vacancy left by Jim Grobe, who resigned on December 2nd. Wake Forest is scheduled to have a press conference at 4:30pm Eastern on Tuesday to introduce their new head coach. The special teams coach, Adam Scheier has been named the interim coach to lead the Falcons against Pittsburgh in the Little Caesar’s Bowl on the 26th.
Clawson had a 32-31 record in five seasons at Bowling Green, including leading the Falcons to a 10-3 record and a MAC Championship this year after beating previously undefeated Northern Illinois soundly, 47-27. He had three winning seasons including this one with a pair of losses in bowl games, including the Humanitarian Bowl in 2009 and Military Bowl in 2012.
Before getting to Bowling Green, Clawson was the head coach of Richmond and Fordham, two teams and schools that had an academic focus along the same lines at Wake Forest. In 2008, he was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee in Phil Fulmer’s last season in Knoxville. Wake Forest is coming off of a 4-8 season with a 2-6 conference record.
