No. 1 Arizona blows away New Mexico State

The Arizona Wildcats beat the New Mexico State Aggies 74-48 at the McKale Center in Tuscon, Arizona.  The Wildcats improved to 10-0, and the Aggies fell to 7-5.

Arizona held a comfortable 32-24 lead at halftime that was extended throughout the second half.  The game blew open beginning at the 8:12 mark, when Arizona went on an 11-0 run to take a 69-45 lead with 4:34 left.  At that point, many of the starters were taken out, and Arizona cruised to their tenth straight win to begin the season.

Arizona shot 51.8% from the field, and outrebounded the Aggies 38-22.  Both teams had a high number of turnovers, Arizona had 13, and New Mexico State had 16.  The Aggies shot a dismal 32.6% from the field, and were blocked seven times by the Wildcats.

Arizona top performers: Forward Brandon Ashley scored 15 points, grabbed six boards, and had four turnovers.  Center Kaleb Tarczewski netted 14 points, and collected five rebounds.  Forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson scored 12 points with eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Forward Aaron Gordon had 11 points and four rebounds.

New Mexico State top performers:  Guard Daniel Mullings led all scorers with 18 points along with two rebounds, and three assists.  Center Tshilidzi Nephawe scored eight points with five rebounds and two steals.  Center Sim Bhullar grabbed seven boards, and scored three points.

Next game:  Arizona plays at Michigan (6-3) on Saturday at 12 pm ET on CBS. New Mexico State plays at Drake (6-2) on Saturday at 8:05 pm ET.
