Diego Sanchez signs new 8-fight contract; wants UFC 171 bout

Diego Sanchez is coming off of a Fight of the Year candidate against Gilbert Melendez and he has used that performance to earn himself a new eight-year deal with the UFC. While Sanchez, who was the welterweight champion on season one of The Ultimate Fighter, just signed his new deal, he has his eyes on a potential return date.

If Sanchez has his way, he will return to the octagon on March 15 at the American Airlines Center at UFC 171 in Dallas, Texas.

According to Ariel Helwani, Sanchez has his eyes set on a bout with Joe Lauzon.

If Lauzon gets past Mac Danzig this weekend without any significant injury, he could certainly be available to meet Sanchez’s request. A bout between Sanchez and Lauzon would certainly get the fans excited and likely be the early favorite for Fight of the Night.

We will just have to see if Lauzon is able to get past Danzig first this weekend.

UFC 171 is set to be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira.
