The national media is catching on to what the NFL Draft community is already largely aware.  Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr is getting close to being a lock as a top 5 pick.  To be clear, the concept of ‘rising’ is basically the media catching up to what NFL personnel had already determined a while ago.

Carr has had a phenomenal career in Fresno and he will have a few more chances to showcase his abilities.  First, Fresno State plays USC on the 21st in the Las Vegas Bowl.  USC may be the toughest defense the Bulldogs have played all year; the other talented defense the Bulldogs faced was Utah State in their conference championship.

Carr has also accepted an invitation to participate in the Senior Bowl and should be able to show more of his impressive arm strength, accuracy and athleticism in addition to being able to talk to teams in interviews.  For those who have not already had a chance to see Carr’s talent, even with all of the short throws around the line of scrimmage, the game against USC should give him a great test in what he can do and give him the chance to win a bowl game before leaving Fresno State and pursuing an NFL career.
