Kirk Herbstreit: 'No chance' Nick Saban goes to Texas

There has been a surge or rumors surrounding Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown and Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban. ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit went on KESN 103.3 with Ian Fitzsimmons and discussed the rumors on Tuesday afternoon.

These quotes were published on Wednesday morning by The Dallas Morning News, and were made on Tuesday (the show goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) when the rumors were just starting with reports that Mack Brown would be stepping down. Since then there were reports that Saban hasn’t signed an extension with Alabama that he has had since Friday and that Brown would be stepping down (for the second time) after reports denying those initial rumors.

From the Dallas Morning News:

On who could replace Brown if he steps down or is fired:

“Just scratch Nick Saban from the list. Immediately scratch that, and then go from there. Who do you think they would be able to bring in?”

On rumors about Nick Saban coming to Texas:

“There’s no chance. No chance of that happening. Nick Saban will work TV sitting next to us on our set before he’ll be the head coach at Texas … He’ll be at Alabama for another five years, and then he’ll be working TV after that … I know Nick Saban better than anybody. It’s not going to happen.”

We all know what happened the last time Herby said “No chance.” Louisville went on to whip Florida in the 2012 Sugar Bowl. So I guess it looks like Saban will be in Texas soon.
