Mark Hunt, Antonio Silva will not have immediate rematch

Antonio Silva and Mark Hunt had an epic heavyweight battle last weekend that will go down as one of the best in mixed martial arts history, which left many fans wondering if and when they would be able to see another match up between the two.

Unfortunately for those who wanted to see the immediate rematch, UFC president Dana White said that it won’t be happening.

“Every morning when I open my eyes, the first thing I think about is Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva,” said White, via MMA Mania. “THE sickest heavyweight fight that I have ever seen. I was jumping around the room like a little kid during that fight. I can’t stop talking about that fight, I can’t stop thinking about that fight. It was amazing! In that fight, Hunt broke his hand in two places, so he’s gonna be out for awhile.

“No, there won’t be an immediate rematch. I’m assuming Silva is gonna want to fight again before Hunt is back.”

The two men could meet further down the line, but it may be best to leave the fight stand on it’s own and avoid following it with a rematch that doesn’t live up to the fight.

It is rare that a rematch lives up to the first battle and this would certainly be a fight that would be tough to overshadow, so White’s decision will allow the two men to go their separate ways, keep competing, and perhaps eventually meeting again with much more on the line.
