As the NHL world awaits world on the suspension that will be coming for Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton for his attack on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik, the Penguins captain is weighing in on the issue.
Sidney Crosby was discussing the suspension that will be coming Thornton’s way and he predicted that the Bruins forward will receive a ten-game ban.
“I have no idea. It’s hard to guess. Nealer (James Neal) got five. If I had to guess a number, I’d say 10. Right around there. Maybe even more.
“I’m sure they have a lot of different criteria to look at when they’re giving guys suspensions. I’m sure it’s going to be up there. It’s going to be steep.”
Orpik suffered a concussion during the attack and is currently on the injured reserve.
As for Thornton, he is waiting for his hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Friday where he will learn the severity of his punishment.
