Doak Walker Award 2013: Boston College RB Andre Williams named winner

The college football awards were handed out tonight and the best that the NCAA has to offer on its football fields are being honored with hardware they rightfully earned. The first award of the night that was handed out was the Doak Walker award which goes to the nation’s best running back. The finalists were all deserving but it was Boston College running back Andre Williams who took home the award.

Williams has been a stud at Boston College all season long and was expected to be a pretty heavy favorite to win the award. In winning the award, and adding a chapter to his book, Williams beat out the likes of Ka’Deem Carey of Arizona and Bishop Sankey of Washington.

But while all three backs have carved out a special place for themselves this season, it was Williams 2,000 yard-plus season with the Eagles that caught a lot of attention round the country. The Boston College back also ran for over 200 yards five times this season and has the honor of being the only college football running back to amass over 2,000 yards rushing this year with his grand total of 2,073.

Do you think Andre Williams deserved to win the Doak Walker Award? Sound off in the comments section and let your opinion be heard.
