MLB Free Agency: Detroit Tigers have serious interest in signing Joba Chamberlain

It was no secret that Joba Chamberlain’s time with the New York Yankees was coming to an end.

For the first time in his young career, the hard throwing right hander is currently a free agent. Now he’s received some interest from a couple teams already, including the Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals and the Chicago Cubs.

As fellow FanSided colleague Brad Rowland reported yesterday, the Detroit Tigers were showing interest in Chamberlain. Now they appear to be showing some serious interest in actually signing him to a contract according to ESPN’s Buster Olney on Twitter.

Detroit is searching the market high and low for anybody that can help their bullpen. It looks like they’re willing to roll the dice on Chamberlain, who not only struggled during the last couple season with the Yankees, but also had some negative attention away from the field.

Hopefully Chamberlain has a bounce back season and performs well. Detroit will be hoping for the same thing.

I wish Joba the best. He did great work in the community representing the Yankees and I’m sure he will do the same in Detroit (similar to what Reggie Bush is now).
