If the Chicago Cubs do indeed move starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija, David O’Brien reports the Atlanta Braves could be the leading suitor to acquire his services.

The Cubs have went back and forth on a Samardzija trade for months now. In between that time Chicago attempted to re-sign the former Notre Dame wide receiver, but the two sides just couldn’t find a middle ground and trade rumors yet again surfaced.

There’s still no solid indication (outside of constant rumors) that Chicago will move their ‘ace’, but if they do the Braves have interest and have the needed parts to get something done:

The Braves are optimistic about re-signing free agent reliever Eric O’Flaherty, and they are pushing hard to acquire a starting pitcher and could be leading suitors for Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija if Chicago decides to trade the hard-throwing right-hander.

Chicago is well stocked with positional players in their minor league system, so Atlanta would likely need to trade some youthful arms to make such a deal workable.
